Xander Week 37 - A little behind…
June 11, 2007
I’ve gotten a little behind in blogging these past few weeks. For regular readers, I apologize. There are two factors in my tardiness. First, I’m out of new pictures. Several months ago while Zach and I were on vacation in Las Vegas, we lost our camera. We immediately replaced the camera, and although this new camera likes to take pictures, it hates to give them up, and we’ve been having a heck of a time getting pictures off the camera, hence no new pictures.
The much larger distraction however, is the fact that my job has been cut back to 1/2 time. If I were independently wealthy, this would be great. Unfortunately, Zach and I rely on our combined salaries to keep our world afloat. So, my spare time has been spent searching for ways to make up the lost income, or find a new job. This hasn’t left me much free time to blog unfortunately. So, if anyone out there has any suggestions on how to make money on the side (I’m not really in to waitressing, etc.) then please let me know! And, I promise to try to squeeze some blogging time in soon too
Hi there!
I came across your website just yesterday as I am 11 wks pregnant and was just doing a search on anything and everything related to my particular stage of pregnancy! Lo and behold, I found your page! I love it!
(I thought it was pretty cool how I was reading about your Week 14, just assuming it was the present, and next thing you know, I’ve clicked onto a link with pictures of your lil’ guy - holy time warp!)
He’s ADORABLE, by the way! Congratulations!
Anyhoot, I read your post today - I’m all about finding ways to make some extra cash!
One thing that hubby and I do together is a flyer delivery route. I know, what am I, 12?! But it’s only an hour, twice a week, good exercise and a great way to get out and hang out together in the sun. Plus we rake in just over $100 per month, so it’s not too shabby!
Here’s another suggestion - find something you like to do, and do it for cash! I’m Ukrainian, so I make perogies - I advertise at work, people place their orders, and I make however many dozen I need to. I spent 2 weekends doing that, and I made close to $300! So if you make wicked cookies, or you’re an expert at macramae or whatever!, put out an email to everyone at your work, and tell your hubby to do the same, to promote you - and you could make some good buckage that way! (I would imagine you’d only get into it when the baby’s sleeping, eh?!)
These ideas are good b/c they’re on your own time, you’re your own boss, and you do your own thing.
I’d love to hear what you end up doing! Good luck, and keep up the great blog!
cheers,
-cat
Hey Sara!
Sorry to hear about the job! That is a gigantic bummer of a way to start the summer. I think you should look into doing Focus Groups…you can make good money doing those! Also, do you and Zach try to use coupons when you shop? You can save ridiculous amounts of money and my husband happens to be the master! He wrote up a coupon shopping guide for my sister, I can have him forward to you if you are interested. Also, you are so good with computers have you thought about trying to sell things for people on eBay? You charge a % of the selling price and do all the posting, legwork, shipping. Have you thought about trying to stay home with Xander and maybe babysitting a couple other kids? Just throwing out ideas here…hope to see you in NH very soon!
Take care,
Chloe
Hi Sara,
I am telecommuting while I am pregnant and don’t know how I’ll ever go back to work outside the home when my newborn is old enough for day care. However, I just found out about a cool site called Mom Corps that links together moms who want to telecommute and jobs that allow it (in basically any field). The address is http://www.momcorps.com
Good luck to you, and enjoy the precious time at home with your baby.

Hi Sara, So sorry to hear about your job
!!! I can certainly relate to not having any time these days (will email you soon-promise!) I’d tell you to take up an etsy shop like mine, but you have to really hit a hot button to make any substantial income off of it. Not to mention that turning a hobby into a job takes some of the fun out of it.
Hi Sara,
I am a frequent reader of your blog, found you through a search. Glad to have you back. I had been checking in from time to time and missed your postings. You have inspired me to write a blog of my own. I linked to your blog because I have been enjoying it so much. Sorry to hear about your job. Wish I had some ideas for you but I am working because I couldn’t think of a creative way to stay home.
Take care,
Mary
Hi there… I read all the time. It is sad to say, but I have been so busy that I hadn’t had time to read. I’m very sorry about your job. The whole telecommuting thing is great if you can find a job. I do it, but I do think that some days its harder than it would be to leave the baby in a daycare… After all, at work you ONLY have to deal with work. When you’re home you have to deal with baby and work. Sometimes I’ve had a hard time of it. Just some food for thought.
It seems odd that they’d cut a position like yours. I can’t imagine its an easy job. I hope and pray that things will start looking up for you soon!
