Xander Week 29 – A New Sound!
April 3, 2007
Xander figured out a new sound this past weekend. Zach and I have been saying “ma-ma” and “da-da” to him for months now. He always just smiles at us, and sometimes giggles, as if we are the silly ones using made up words. Early this past weekend Xander figured out that he could say “ba”. Since then, our house and our lives have been filled with “ba” from ba-ba black sheep to ba-ba-ba ba-ba-ba-ram. At 6:00 am we hear “ba-ba-a-ba-ba” at noon, more “ba-ba-ba”, a 8:00 pm when Xander should be sleeping, he’s saying “ba-ba-ba”. When he’s on the changing table and he’s irritated, it’s more of a rumbly “brrr-ba-ba-ba”. When he’s talking to his toys, it’s a bit of a softer “ba-ba” sometimes with a “wa” thrown in. I could swear I heard a “ma-ma”, but Zach says it doesn’t count until he actually identifies me as “ma-ma”. When we babbled back to him, he looked so pleased, like we had finally caught on to what he’s been saying for the past six months. I’m sure Zach and I didn’t look exactly normal walking through the mall saying “ba-ba-ba”, but Xander sure seemed to enjoy it, and that’s what counts!
I still don’t believe it. I was there for 3 hours and not a single BA was heard… I withhold judgment hehe

Stop giving him words that will be meaningful to him. You should start teaching him to say the word “Armenio”. I figure he would have a better chance at saying that than ma-ma. Seriously, easily repetitive sounds are much harder than a 4 syllable country that was turned into a person’s nick name. HA HA
PS. My parents spent so much time teaching me to talk and now I don’t shut up. Think about that in 5 years when you are reading this. Just joshing you, congrats on the semi-accomplishment.
