Xander Week 17 – Baby Clothes Addiction

January 16, 2007

Bathtime for XanderI don’t know how many people share this addiction with me, but I have found that when I am in a baby clothing store, I can’t resist buying things! I think it’s a bit of an addiction. I used to love buying clothes for myself, and my closets and dressers can attest to the piles of clothing that I already have. But now I get a bigger kick out of buying things for Xander, and of course, dressing him up in the new adorable outfits I’ve found ;-) I also think that these stores are pretty smart – when they sell things for $5, I think, wow, that’s a great deal! Then I end up spending $60 in $5-$10 outfits… So, I’m not sure how to address this addiction, other than to avoid those stores as much as possible. I’m also not sure how long this addiction will last. I can’t imagine that it’s much fun to buy clothes for a teenage boy – especially since they tend to have very different opinions on style than I do. On the other hand, I also couldn’t resist buying an outfit for friends of ours who are having a baby in the spring, so if friends continue to have babies, maybe I’ll continue to buy baby clothes… I also can’t resist peeking through the baby section in department stores, but I’d like to think that I do a little bit better at containing myself there. Part of me wonders if I should enjoy this stage while it lasts – I’m certain that I won’t be able to dress up my little boy for very long before he has some opinions on what he wants to wear… I guess I’ll just have to keep my eyes peels for sales, and continue to avoid those stores unless it’s absolutely necessary (like when Xander goes up a size).

  1. I went to Osh Kosh and Carter’s today, so yes… I share that addiction :)

  2. Oh boy Jenny – by the time you have children you’re going to need an intervention to deal with this addiction ;-)

  3. Yeah, I have that addiction too. JJ already has quite a stash of 6-12 month (for summer) and 12-18 month (for fall) built up. I refuse to buy any more 3-6s, he has almost grown out of them already!! If you’re only buying $5-10 outfits, though, I don’t think that is too bad. Try searching baby Kingsley clothing…now that would be something to worry about.

  4. Hey Sara,

Oh, it’s so normal to have such an addiction! Both my mom and I have it. Baby clothes are too cute & I also have the urge to buy everything I see, but my husband would probably kill me big time! I try to stick to cheaper stores too that sell $5-$10, but sometimes I see those designer outfits, such as Baby Gap, and the material is soooo nice on those!! The price tag not as much… so I wait & hope someone will give them to me as a gift.

Oh, just love baby clothes. I also buy them for friends/family, just can’t help it!

  5. Well, I’m glad to hear so many people share my “addiction” ;-) I suppose as addictions go, I should be grateful it’s baby clothes – at least it’s only my bank account that gets hurt ;-)

  6. Dear Sara,

I am a mother of soon to be four and i just wanted to say i find your website to be adorable. It helps to read it even though i have done this three other times it seems to be fun to read while passing the time i am only 18 weeks.IN the half way mark wanting time to fast but when the pregancy is done i miss being pregant if that makes sense.
Your son is beautiful and i rarely say that about other children than my own. Thank you for having your blog.

  7. Hi Tori – I’m so glad you are enjoying the blog! It takes some dedication to keep it up, so I’m glad that there are people out there who find it useful/entertaining :-) I admire your energy – 4 kids! I entirely understand wanting time to move faster so you can meet that little person in your belly, and then missing some of the nice things about being pregnant – the kicking, everyone catering to you, the closeness you have with the baby, etc. I of course think my son is perfect, but I’m a little biased, so it’s nice to hear an outside opinion confirm that he’s a good looking little guy – thanks! Good luck to you and your family!
