Xander Week 106 – Sometimes he just amazes me….

Xander's "fake" smile...

So, you live with this little person – see him every day, change his diapers, get him dressed, and nag him constantly – eat your vegetables, don’t wave that sword around, don’t stand near the stove, be careful! And on and on the instructions go. Every once in a while though, he comes out with something and you think “Whoa, he is a really amazing kid!”

Sometime after the presidential election, we started asking Xander who is the president. It didn’t take long before he could easily respond “Obama” with a sly little grin. Then we started working on Vice President and Secretary of State. Most days he can remember Biden, but it’s taking a while to get the Clinton response. Often we would practice this at the dinner table, and I don’t think we ever showed Xander any pictures of Obama. Last week Xander found a magazine on the ground, and there was a picture of an Obama figurine on the back. Xander picked it up and pointed out “Pres Obama” to me. I have no clue how or where he made the connection between name and face, but apparently our kid isn’t as oblivious to the world as we had assumed!

Cute! Samantha says, “Obaba,” and then, “one,” because Matt began asking her who the president was and how old she was at the same time. Now she associates them and always answers both answers to either question.
