Week 40 – Braxton Hicks Arrived
September 18, 2006
To answer the question that everyone has been asking me, yes, I’m still pregnant. The baby is apparently still not ready to come out. I have finally been having some Braxton Hicks contractions. My sister-in-law was able to give me a good description of them – I don’t know what a tightening uterus feels like, but I can feel the muscles in my stomach tighten occasionally. As my sister-in-law would say, it feels like your stomach gets hard, like a basketball in your stomach. It is actually interesting to feel the outside of your belly when this happens, because it really is hard. For me, I start to feel these contractions in my lower abdomen, which then moves up to the rest of my belly. I’m not sure when these contractions started, since I wasn’t really certain what I was feeling. They don’t really hurt, though they can be a little uncomfortable at times.
On another note, my due date is officially this Thursday, the 21st. So, if the little bundle of joy decides to stay in longer than Thursday, can I start charging rent?
Congrats on the BH contractions, and congrats on almost reaching your due date. Won’t be long now! I’m still waiting for those BH’s, but as of my last doc visit I am 60% thinned and 1 cm (I know it isn’t much but it gives me hope).
I am not due until December 20th so reading your blogs have kindof got me ready for whats to come. I have had alot of the same thoughts and experiences so far so, reading your thoughts and feelings has made me less panicky. I just wanted to say congrats, as today is your due date, I am crossing my fingers that you have delivered a happy and healthy baby by now. With as little pain as possible. Best Wishes and Congrats!
CONGRATS ON THE BRAXTON HICKS. HOPEFULLY SOON YOU WILL BE HOLDING YOUR BABY. I AM ONLY 21 WEEKS SO I HAVE A WAYS TO GO. I ENJOYED READING YOUR BLOGS. KEEP US POSTED AFTER THE BABY IS BORN IF YOU FIND THE TIME..:)
Hi Melissa, congrats on your baby as well – it sounds as though you’ll be holding your little one in no time as well, since you’re thinning and dialated – good luck!
Hi Davina – I’m glad you’ve enjoyed the blog. Congrats on your upcoming arrival! Thank you for the positive wishes. It’s always nice to know that there are other mothers who have similar experiences and feelings as I do. I hope that the rest of your pregnancy is healthy, and that you also have a safe, and lowest pain possible delivery as well. Good luck to you!
Hi Trista, It certainly was a relief to finally get Braxton Hicks. I’m doing my best to keep up with the blog post pregnancy, though it’s much more challenging to type with a baby in my arms vs. a baby in my belly
I hope that the rest of your pregnancy is happy and healthy. Good luck!
I’m now 38 and a half week along , and I feel a lot of presure , especially when I walk, the Dr. said that it will be a large baby boy , I have a little 6 year old and can hardly do anyhing activ with him.
Hi Isolde, congrats on your newest addition! I can entirely sympathize with that feeling, though I didn’t have a 6 year-old to look after. I can only imagine how much more challenging that must be – I admire your stamina!
I’m 38 weeks pregnant (well will be on Friday) and just came across this blog. Congrats to you for hanging in there and making it to 40 weeks! I am so ready to pop it isn’t even funny. Everyone that sees me thinks I am just HUGE. One guy even said, “What do you have four of them in there?!” My son was 9 lbs. 7 oz. and I’m having a little girl that is suppose to be a good 8 or 9 lbs. (says my midwife).
Best of luck to you — hopefully we’ll be having our babies soon!
Sorry I didn’t realize you already had the baby — congrats! Sorry that you ended up w/ a c-section. Hope you are healing and doing fine w/ the new baby.
Hi Bridgett – congrats on your baby girl! I hope your labor and delivery went well! What did your daughter end up weighing? The c-section wasn’t exactly fun, but I mended well, and I’m feeling back to my old self again (it’s wonderful to be able to tie my own shoes after so many months of not being able to even see my feet!)
Hey guys I`m 39 weeks pregnant and my doctor popped my membranes..And I feel cramping so bad..And pressure and then my stomach will get really hard..I am hopeing too have the baby really soon!! But I dont know the doctor said somtimes it dont work when they popp them you could have them poped 2 or 3 times before it happens but im kinda confuseD!!
Hi Lisa, congrats on your upcoming baby! I’m hoping that you had your baby soon after your water was broken! I’m also confused about getting popped 2 or 3 times, it doesn’t sound like he was talking about the amniotic fluid membrane, does it? As far as I know, once that’s broken, it’s broken for good – very strange…
I know you have had your baby for a long time now. I just wanted to say thanks for all the information i’ve found on your pages. I find you to be humorus about the whole experience, and i’m thankful for that too. Your sharing with us other mothers is very comforting, and just to know that I’m not alone really helps. My BH have been very painful for several days in a row now, bad thing is we are not sure about the baby’s due date. Great I know, but I figure when my water breaks i’ll know.
