Week 32 - Ugg, Backache
August 1, 2006
I think in some previous posts I’ve mentioned that I’ve had an amount of back pain for a while. Up until this week, my pain usually kicks up in the evenings, particularly if I’ve been overly active during the day. I sometimes have trouble walking, and am always glad to collapsed into bed with my body pillow. Magically, by morning, my back seems to repair itself, and I no longer notice any pain.
This week has been entirely different. Starting with a marathon walk around the Nashua mall, my back started to tell me that it was not going to put up with this nonsense anymore. Much to my surprise, when I awoke on Monday morning, my back still hurt! It hurt when I walked into work, and actually started to burn a little as I walked up the stairs. My chair, which has been mostly comfortable up to this point became my enemy. Even the couch couldn’t alleviate the pain. This has been going on most of the week. I’ve tried everything I can think of - stretches, back pain ointment, hot packs, cold packs, massages - nothing seems to help much. The cold pack and the ointment helped temporarily, but as soon as the effects wore off, the pain came back.
As someone who has never had back troubles, this week has been quite irritating. I can’t spend an hour in the grocery store shopping anymore. I can’t wait in lines, and I’m tempted to use the stupid elevator for one flight of stairs to avoid that burning pain. I’m praying that my back will return to normal after the baby is born, and I’m not sure what else I can do except continue to ice my back nightly, and hope that September 21st comes quickly!
Hello,
Congrats!! My due date is 9/21/06 as well and I look like i’m carrying twins. I hope the baby comes by the end of August to give me some relief. Good luck!!
Congratulations Tasha! I’ve gotten that question a few times - are you carrying twins? I’m feeling pretty huge now too, and looking forward to not being pregnant anymore. At least we’re on the home stretch now so hopefully it’ll go by quickly!
Tasha,
I SO hear you. I am 32 weeks & my back has hurt all the time for the past 3 weeks. I have sit, even drive with a pillow behind me. Sleeping is the worst. I switch back & forth 3x a night between sleeping in my bed & on an Aero mattress & every time I wake up in pain I inflate/deflate the stupid thing. This did not happen with my first pregnancy either but probably because I wan’t as big.
Hi Lisa,
Congrats on the pregnancy, though it sounds like you are pretty much ready to be done with being pregnant. I had never thought of using an air mattress before - does that help with your back pain? Good luck, and hopefully by now you are in the home stretch, if not already cuddling that little one in your arms
