Week 25 – Zach is in the Dog House
June 20, 2006
Several months ago (I think somewhere around my 4 month check-up) we signed up for Childbirth Classes. The classes are offered through my ObGyn office, and are of course highly recommended for new parents. The 8 week class covers lamaz, basic child birth information, etc. and then one class on infant care and one class on breast feeding. For two months I have been talking about how the class starts on June 27th. I even asked Zach to switch his racket ball/video game night from Thursday to Tuesday so that he would be available to go with me to the classes on Tuesday nights (the switch ended up working out better for him and the group anyway). So, this week, Zach tells me that a conference he previously thought he would be unable to attend, he is now going to. And of course, he will be gone Tuesday night, the 27th, so I will be the only loser in the very first class with no partner. The conference is good for Zach, and something he has been very much looking forward to. What’s more irritating? It’s in Burlington, VT, where I have wanted to spend a long weekend with Zach for at least five years – it is such a pretty city with so much to do. Zach‘s boss, Ken, is actually taking his wife as an anniversary present. So, not only is Zach going to miss our first class, but he’s going to a city that I have wanted the two of us to go to for years. Needless to say, I didn’t hold back any pregnancy emotions in expressing my irritation at this latest development. As, Steven Colbert would say, Shibboleth is “dead to me“. Stupid Shibboleth.
Thanks for letting Zach go to Burlington. I know he’ll be there for when the lamaz really counts.
I know Zach is glad that he went to Burlington – and he’s definitely been doing his part over the past few months. He has also been doing his fair share of reading and research, so I’m pretty certain that he will be as ready as any new dad can be when “d-day” arrives.
