Comments on: Week 19 – Umm… Movement?

I’m 18 weeks and this is my second child, I’ve been feeling slight movement for a few weeks now, but in the last 4 or 5 days I haven’t felt anything! Should I be concerned? I have my ultrasound in a couple of weeks but it’s so hard to have to wait that long to make sure all is ok. Any comments?

Hi,
I am 18 wks and 3 days pregnant with my third child and there hasn’tbeen any real noticeablechangesin the size ofmy abdomen in the last few weeks. Iam still wearing my pre-pregnancy clothes, with my last pregnancy I was wearing maternity by thetime Iwas 3 1/2 months along. I am beginningto feel concerned.

Hi Mayamenon30, I honestly don’t know what I would do in your position. It certainly sounds like your baby is off to a rough start, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that all hope is lost. As an example, check out MckMama’s blog post here: http://www.mycharmingkids.net/2009/07/no-matter-what.html She also had a baby who developed heart problems in-utero. She was told her baby would not live to delivery. Now he is nine months old. I’m not saying that his life or her life are by any means easy, but he’s alive, and he will hopefully live a long, relatively healthy life. I think mayamenon30 that you need to follow your own heart. Not one of us out there can say with certainty what we would do in your shoes. You are faced with a nearly impossible situation and either outcome is bound to bring an amount of heartache with it. If you’ve read through the comments here, you’ll see that many, many women don’t feel movement at 19 weeks. For some it’s 20, 22 or even later before they feel those little baby kicks. I wish you strength and wisdom while you sort through the decisions that need to be made, and if you feel up to it, I’d love to hear how you are doing throughout the process. Good luck.

Hello everyone,
I am 19 weeks pregant and untill this week everything was alright. i did my sonogram and they told me my baby has 2 holes in her heart and one valve(suppose to give oxygen) is missing. they took my amino and result is no “downsyndrom”. i didnt feel any baby movements yet. Then also the heart rate is 60.They are telling me “if you want you can terminate”.any comments?

I am 19wks along and i have not felt my baby kick yet… Although every once in a while i feel butterflies. This is my first and i am very excited.. best of luck to all of you!

Hi Purple Apples – congrats on your pregnancy! I think it’s pretty normal to feel just sporadic movement at first. And, it can be so hard to figure out – was that the baby moving, or just a stomach gurgle, etc. I think as the weeks go by, you’ll start to feel movement more and more regularly. If you’re worried about the frequency of movement, you can try laying down (usually on your side) and see how long it takes to feel 10 kicks. I bet your little one will surprise you at how quickly those kicks add up when you’re paying attention If you’re still worried, don’t hesitate to call your doctor – they’re usually great at reassuring new moms. Hi, I am 19 weeks pregnant. I felt the first movement (down by my cervix) about 5 days ago- I had my u/s the next morning which showed that the baby’s feet and butt were down right next to my cervix. I felt movement that day but now not much, if anything since. Should I be freaked out? Or could it be that the baby has moved to a less sensitive place so I dont feel it as much?

Hi Excited Mom – a boy!! You must be very excited, and I’m sure your family is happy to hear that as well I’ve never had a #d ultrasound, but I hear they are amazing. I hope you got some good pictures There are some great naming sites out there – a simple google search will turn up more than you’ll ever have time to look through I’m sure you are going to have a lot of fun with that little guy – and remind your family not to go “blue crazy” – little boys look great in red, green, yellow, etc. too
