Parker Week 28 – Fun at the beach

July 21, 2009
mmm... sand...

mmm... sand...

A few weeks ago we had a family trip to Wallis Sands Beach.  It was our first trip to the Ocean with the boys – Xander has been to beaches before, but never to the ocean.  The whole day was tons of fun, and even without a nap Xander did great (except for that whole taking off without telling anyone, but that is for a different post).

Parker was of course a little young to be enjoying many beach activities, though he did get to dip his toes in the Atlantic.  I was not surprised to discover that he simply stopped to watch the odd activity of the cool water washing over his legs, and his feet slowly sinking into the sand. No complaints, no giggles, just quiet contemplation.

With this warmer (and finally sunnier) weather we’ve discovered that Parker looooves to feel grass on his feet.  Sand was pretty much the same way – he was fascinated by it!  Shortly after we arrived, Zach was letting Parker check out the sand, and he had so much fun with it.  It wasn’t long before the kid face planted into the sand – but without complaint – he would have happily rolled around in the sand for a lot longer if we hadn’t insisted that we needed to clean the stuff out of his eyes and mouth…  (I also should note that I was still pulling sand out of his ears a week later…)  At least he enjoyed himself, right?

Xander Week 27 – Our first trip without the baby…

March 29, 2007

100_5449.JPGLast week Zach and I went on a trip to Las Vegas. It was planned well before Xander’s arrival, and although Vegas wasn’t my ideal vacation spot, Zach had a conference there, so it ended up being a cheaper vacation, all things considered. While Zach and I were in Vegas, Xander stayed with a series of relatives. Xander did fine with his family, and I’m sure the whole event was harder on us than it was on him. I knew I was going to miss Xander, but it almost surprised me how much. There were lots of babies out there, and every time I saw one, I first compared the size to Xander’s size, and then I wanted to chase the baby down and play with it, because I couldn’t play with my baby. We flew home very late, and didn’t get to my in-law’s until 2:30 am. It took every ounce of self control that I possess not to wake Xander as soon as we walked in the door, but I knew he hadn’t been sleeping great that week, and I didn’t want him to wake up in the middle of the night and not go back to sleep. All in all, the trip was a success, and it provided Xander with some excellent bonding time with our extended family. I am very happy to be home though – and it feels so wonderful to cuddle my little boy!
