I'm usually a lurker but in response to the people singing the praises of midstate health - good for you but all of us aren't that lucky. I have chronic dry skin that occassionally requires prescription lotion. I went to MidState for a rash on my face that wouldn't go away after more than 3 months. The nurse practitioner examined me and told me she would send two prescriptions to the pharmacist that would clear things up. I know the difference between prescription and over-the-counter and would not have left the office without her assurance she was writing a perscription. And no I did not misunderstand her. However, when I got to the pharmacy they said there was no perscription. I had the pharmacist call MidState Health. After doing so he stated that the nurse practitioner wanted me to try an over-the-counter cream first. It turned out to be one I already tried. The nurse practitioner LIED to me about writing a perscription. Remember it was for lotion not some kind of narcotic. I wasted my one day off going to the doctor and pharmacy for nothing. When I complained to MidState Health they did not respond and still charged me for the visit. I've never been back.

Well, I guess the Mid-State Nazi's don't want us to say anything negative about their services, even though we weren't treated as well as we felt we should have been. I'm not exactly sure when you were placed in charge of my opinion, but perhaps you should just check your marching orders, because you are heading into a storm the likes of which you won't win. Attempting to silence critics of your practice is absurd. Who else would get so mad about someone being critical of a practice, except the "providers" (as they call themselves)? The answer is, it is somebody working there, as no patient would rise to such a defense. That being said, Mid-State Health Care is the embodiment of all that is wrong with our health system. I have been a patient there, for far too long, mainly owing to the fact that they are the only game in town.

Went for a physical and started discussing my quitting smoking and was told I couldn't on the visit for a physical, and had to make a separate appointment to have them write me a prescription for Chantix. I did so, and during that visit, which lasted less than 2 minutes, I brought up an ankle injury, and was told they didn't block off more than 15 minutes for my visit, and I had to make another appointment for my ankle. You can get the idea, real quick about what kind of place this is. If they were any good, I'd love to tell people that. I wish they were good, because I have to drive an hour and a half to get to Lebanon NH, for decent primary care. I'd rather put up with a few problems with them, instead of driving so much, but they have become so blatant lately about duplicitous billing, and "questionable billing practices" that I wouldn't trust them with my life. The quote is from my insurance carrier who is one the largest in the nation, and their reaction to billing irregularities that have arisen. When mistakes happen as is claimed by this practice, they are usually a two way street. For example, if a bank keeps making errors in their favor, at some point they cross the line of being mistakes and are more sinister.

Much more to say, but I'll wait for a response from the providers before I continue. I have some really good stuff, saved up, so please, do comment.

Instead of making an issue over everything be an adult and move on. There are worse things in life, like try spending a year in Iraq where you are away from everyone you love and everything you know and you can't control one thing about being there. No one likes to wait but it happens, do you ever think about when you take your extra time with the Doc you are making the next person wait? Sure you don't because everyone only cares for themselves. I've never had a problem getting in or waiting to long there and if I did and had a problem with it, instead of wasting my time on here I'd be looking to find someone else to go to. It's really a pretty simple thing, and if you feel all the other places around here are just as bad then take the time and go out side of this area if you're that concerned, seems to me you just want things to go all your way with no effort. Sometimes in life you have to go out of you way to get the best and if you're not willing to put that effort in then you get what you get and don't need to be blogging about your choices.

Hi Donna,
Thank you for your thoughts. I'm glad that you have a positive experience with the Mid-State Health practice. Dr. Rosen has been my PCP on paper for almost six years now, and I have never met the man. I understand that he is busy, but there has never been any continuity in my care - I never see the same person twice, and I have no explanation for why. Any information about a quality concerns office is not easily found in the waiting area, at least not in the time I've spent sitting in it. If I knew where to find "the powers that be" at Mid-State Health, I would be more than happy to address my concerns with them. I'm not sure what comments I made were "ignorant about the medical field" - you yourself said it is a busy and growing practice, and my comments all surround concerns about this. I also think that my concerns about one particular medical professional's inability to communicate with me in English is also a valid concern, and potentially a lawsuit waiting to happen. I'm not saying this doctor isn't a perfectly competent medical professional, he just can't communicate well, which is a dangerous thing in the medical field. I would love to find a doctor who is less over-burdened. Unfortunately, from the research that I have done, other medical offices in my area either are not taking new patients, or are experiencing the same sort of troubles as Mid-State - too many patients and not enough doctors or time. From what I can tell, I would receive the same service elsewhere, which doesn't inspire me to change anytime soon, but rather make use of medical professionals as little as possible.

Well, I found this website looking for a place to sing the praises of Mid-State, the commment about the office being a business and not caring about the quality of care is a load of .... I too was a patient of Dr. Rosen's and had gone a way for a few years and then found myself needing an appointment when I had reestablished with the practice. Did I want to see Dr. Rosen? Well yeah, however, having researched the growth of his practice I found his practice had absolutely exploded with growth, most likely due to the fact that he is a fabulous doctor and that there is such a scarcity of primary care physicians entering the medical field. Certainly not Mid-State's fault. It certainly wouldn't be great medical care to continue to cram an already full schedule with new patients only to accomodate patients at the time of their phone call..I am thankful to him and the practice as I have reestablished and met a wonderful new doctor. Dr. Karanouh, wow, the word compassionate does not even begin to describe him. So you know I completely understand your disconcern, but you know, perhaps you should take concerns like this to the powers that be at Mid-State. Every office has quality concerns, and yes, growing pains. Lowering ourselves to discriminate against ethnicities and voicing vicious remarks about the medical field just because we are ignorant to these issues is certainly not going to help anyone. My advice to you would be to research your next doctor, don't just pick him/her aimlessly from a list, you are sure to get yourself into trouble doing that. Good luck in your search.

Hi Patti, I entirely agree - MSCH is a business, and the business doesn't care about quality of care, just of quantity care. I called one of those private practices, but being a smaller one, they aren't accepting new patients. Now I'm left trying to figure out what to do - suck it up and go back to the place I know will take me, even if they don't actually take care of me, or do I keep trying and waiting for a spot to open up in a smaller practice? Neither option is all that appealing... Hopefully one of the private practices will have an opening soon!

I used to work at MSHC...They have gotten so big that the doctors don't have time for you. Your physician may be doing your physical in 15 to 30 mininutes. What kind of physical is that? The more patients the more money the company makes, forget about the patient.
The best care in the area are those private practices!

I hate when doctor's offices become too big to provide decent levels of care. I have already told you my mom's story, which is why she is seeking another doctor also.

May I recommend Mary Gennaro, of Gennaro Family Practice to you again, as well as to anyone reading. She spends real time with you, plus there is a GREAT staff, from the office manager down to the nurses. You may have a wait, but only because when it is your turn, she spends time listening to you.
